Selling Web Services on E-Bay

I've set up a new way to buy my time on Drupal I sell my work in service blocks (not time blocks) each block is worth 160 Rs each (4 USD) The reason for the low price per block is to allow clients to update content for a very small amount of work without paying for time that would go unused. Updating or adding a website link or menu item on just 2 or 3 pages doesn't seem worth paying 8 USD or 320 Rs. Since I am a resident of India it is best for me to set my prices in Indian rupees. 4 blocks can buy one hour of time for a Wordpress website 6 blocks can buy one hour of time for a Drupal website I have yet to set the number of blocks to purchase an hour of work for:
  • To create wireframes (estimated 5)
  • Usability Reviews (estimated 6)
  • Setup VPS Servers (estimated 3)
  • and the other services I could provide
Current clients are exempted from the above prices My first advertisement is here: http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330212580371 A Copy of the Ebay post of Mine: My website Services include:
  • Forums (PHPBB, Drupal)
  • Blogs (Wordpress or Drupal)
  • Photo Galleries (Wordpress or Drupal)
  • Video Galleries (Wordpress or Drupal)
  • Static Online Catalogues (Wordpress or Drupal)
  • Music showcase websites (Drupal)
  • Configure Virtual Private Servers or Dedicated Servers to run Forums, Wordpress, Wordpress Multi-User, Drupal Websites, Openads server services and more (Please contact for further details.)
  • Web Usability consultation (Please contact for further details.)
Rs.160 purchases one service block/slice.The more advanced the website or service, the more the number of blocks (worth Rs 160 each) needed for an hour of work.Client: What is a Block???Seller: I've decided to sell my services in blocks/slices. This allows a more flexible payment plan. Clients may need a few small changes to a website. Those changes while small usually requires going into the coding of a website. Instead of charging a client half an hours worth of work for a small change, I decided to sell my services in blocks/slices of a fixed value. The longer you use my services, the more cost effective it is to buy a service block/slice of work instead of paying by the hour.Client: I'm not in India, how much is a block worth in USD or EUR?Seller: One block is worth approximately 4 USD or 2.75 EUR. Client: Why not an hourly Rate only? Seller: Hourly rates work well when all the work can be done in one instance and the work done is of only one type. I work on more than one website system and once the project is complete, I maintain and modify websites as required over the life of the website. If I were to charged a fixed hourly rate, I would have to charge clients who run a basic website, the same amount I would charge clients who run an advanced website.Client: Can I use just hourly Rates instead?Seller: Sure.Client: Do you have a chart with your hourly rates?Seller: Right here (If installing a website for the first time, please purchase 2 hours)

Client: Why 2 hours for a new website? I have a website already and an installation on its own is just an hour!Seller: There's no need to pay for 2 hours of work if you have a website working already. The actual amount of time spent reviewing the needs for a website is well over 2 hours as it includes discussing what type of website is required for their needs, selecting of design for the website, selecting the server provider to host their website, installing the website on the server once ther server provider is selected, installing the theme for the website. As of now I do not create new themes or designs for website and I do not create new plugins or modules although my prices include making changes to pre-made theme (which is work that is almost always required) and can make small code changes to plug ins and modules occasionally. Here's a list of whats included in the initial installation fee:
  • Selection of Website Engine (Dupal, Wordpress, PHPBB Forums) according to client requirements
  • Selection of Pre-Made Theme/Design that can work on the website engine
  • Selection of Server Host according to client requirements (I can provide free hosting if the website is small)
  • Installation of Website Engine (PHPBB, Wordpress, Drupal) on Server Host
  • Installation of Selected Theme
  • Selection of Plugins/Modules to expand the website's features and functions
Individual service blocks (Rs 160 each) can be purchased for post installation work (Installing and configuring plugins/modules to expand the website's features and functions) or the work can be done according to hourly rates.Individual service blocks can be purchased (Rs 160 each) for monthly/occasional updates and content addition if any. Please contact me before purchase to ensure that the work is possible.Payment for services can be made when work is complete. On going work is paid on the first Monday of the following Month.Thanking You,Steve J Bayerhttp://stevejbayer.com

The quotes below are from Don Norman’s article: Design Thinking: A Useful myth …more important, and more legitimate reason to embrace the term “design thinking.” It positions design in a unique way, forcing companies to view design differently than before. The emphasis on “thinking” makes the point that design is more than a pretty face: [...]
