Things To Add to my to do checklist Summer 2008

Create Installation Profile for Drupal Bloggers.

Drupal 5 has the Single User blog install profile. I have started initial attemprs to create an install profile for bloggers in Drupal 6. As of now the install profile I created (titled 'blogger')  automatically activates modules used by most  bloggers such as WYSIWYG and Google Analytics. On the to do list of that are:

  • On installing the profile the only input screens should be
    • Database details
    • Admin information details.
  • Automatic creation of one main content vocabulary and free tagging
  • Tie in IMCE to the WYSIWYG Editor automatically on profile activation
  • Have Forums automatically create categories for forums
    • Quite a few successful bloggers use forums (wether on-site or off-site) for very light CRM
  • Possibly give the user the option to select pre-packed themes on install
  • Give the user the option to enter Google Analytics code on installation

Hopefully the blogger install profile should make starting with Drupal easier for newcomers who just want a blog and/or page management CMS with forums and newsletters as a CRM tool

With the install profile I can just theme instead of site building and theming. Blogger would be licensed as GPL although it stands at a rather heavy 25 MB with just one add on theme (I could cut a MB here and there by removing FCKEditors built in file manager since IMCE would automatically be usedinstead of the default file manager.)

  1. Learn enough JQuery to make it happen
  2. Use only JQuery with no Drupal hook
  3. Turn it into a Drupal Module

The quotes below are from Don Norman’s article: Design Thinking: A Useful myth …more important, and more legitimate reason to embrace the term “design thinking.” It positions design in a unique way, forcing companies to view design differently than before. The emphasis on “thinking” makes the point that design is more than a pretty face: [...]
