Wire Framing Station 08
The reason I've started a ChipIn is because the computer in use right now to produce the wire frames and post on g.d.o freezes far more than I'm comfy with (pretty much the reason I keep dropping from IRC without actually quitting it and need to do about 10 edits for each post on g.d.o) To continue wire framing till the release of Drupal 7 is possible (there is a backup CPU and Motherboard just in case they fritz out, although without a new UPS the back ups would fritz out anyway.)
The current system I have is:
| Part | Details |
|---|---|
| 3 GHz Athlon64 | Backed up with an identical CPU |
| Asus A8V VM MB | Backed up with a MSI RS480 |
| 2 GB DDR | 4 sticks of 512 MB DDR400 RAM |
| 240 GB HDD | 160+80 |
| 17 inch CRT | 1024x800 Res isn't any good for wire frames of screens of more than 640*480. Making the current wire frames for Node Forms is tricky enough, creating the wire frames for making user friendly themes for Drupal 7 would be ouch!!! |
| APC 500 PSU | Its only good for 250 Watts and My system without the monitor connected uses 280 Watts at least which is why it freezes even when the power doesn't go out. Connecting the monitor to it caused the motherboard to get check sum errors in Early October 2007 after just a week. This is probably most urgent to upgrade and the most difficult to find upgrade but I found the dealer that stocks the upgrade!!! |
The ideal system to do wire frames on would be the following (should last about 2 and a half years?)
Here's a break down with price list (hardware only.) The reason for the high prices is because in India, components such as LCDs are considered to be luxury items and charged a 100% tax instead of the usual 12.5%.
| Component | Details | Price in Rupees | Price in USD |
|---|---|---|---|
| APC BACK-UPS RS 1500VA or APC Smart-UPS 1000VA | That ones good for up to 550 Watts. Anymore than that I'd need an industrial sized generator. | 10000 | 250 |
| 19 inch LCD 1440x900 | Proficient wire frames for 1024x800 res screens is not reasonable on a 17 inch monitor | 16000 | 400 |
| 400Watt PSU | 640 | 16 | |
| Motherboard | Intel® Desktop Board DG33FB | 5700 | 145 |
| Dual Core E6750 CPU | 8800 | 220 | |
| 2 GB DDR2 Memory | 2400 | 60 | |
| 8600 GT Video Card | 7000 | 175 | |
| 80 GB HDD | (Just kidding about it being just 80 GB although its the only size in the normal computer marts, I'm glad I know where the dealers are.) |
? | ? |
| Total Price | ? | 1500 | |

The quotes below are from Don Norman’s article: Design Thinking: A Useful myth …more important, and more legitimate reason to embrace the term “design thinking.” It positions design in a unique way, forcing companies to view design differently than before. The emphasis on “thinking” makes the point that design is more than a pretty face: [...]
